"Dive Deep", (12 x 14 x 5 inches), 2015
This sculpture originated from a macro photograph of a parrot that was sitting on my lap one magical day while we were "locked" in the aviary with a zookeeper after closing. She peered into my lens, and studied me as much as I studied her. I transformed her into a sea creature, that appears to have come from somewhere deep in the ocean, surfacing for us to see her beauty and uniqueness... thus, the title which reminds us that it is worth the work to dive deep into our own consciousness to see what lives therein. There is much hand-carving of feather texture over the entire piece, as well as embellishment done with a batik pen for the droplets.
