"SANCTUARY Eight"
"SANCTUARY Eight"
(6 x 8 x 1 in)
As my frozen feet walked atop ice-layered snow, my eyes took in the blinding beauty of the vast landscape, glittering with radiant diamonds of light. My heart registered the devastation of broken branches and downed trees, yet softened as my eyes came to rest on tiny beings encapsulated beneath the thickest layer of ice seen in my lifetime, where color and form were illuminated in magical globes of light. Macro photographs, layered with encaustic— rather than ice— were carved to reveal the hidden wonders safely preserved beneath, as if waiting for spring, and colored end-to-end with powdered pigment. With sanctuaries small enough to be held in my hands, I reflected on the sacred gifts of nature. May these offerings awaken your own inner knowing of the sacred parts of your life that elicit refuge and hope. (This will arrive ready to hang on your wall).
